Dr. F. Mason Smith, O.D.
For the last 28 years Dr. Smith has been in private practice. As the primary doctor of Family Vision Care, he believes that all our patients should be knowledgeable and educated in the care they receive and that such care should be of excellent standard and quality. Dr. Smith is licensed in South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Ohio.
Dr. Smith holds a B.S. in Biology from the Citadel and a M.B.A also from the Citadel. He was Valedictorian in 1976 when receiving his Doctor of Optometry from the South College of Optometry and held the position of Chairman of the Board for Vision Service Plan (VSP) in 1998-2000.
With roles such as Chairman of the Board for the South College of Optometry Board of Trustees, membership on the board for the Association of the Blind and membership to the American Optometric Association, Dr. Smith is a key participant in the progress and advancement of vision care and optometry.
However; at every opportunity Dr. Smith enjoys the chance to give back to the local community as well. When not in the office at Family Vision Care, Dr. Smith is a member of Seacoast Christian Community Church, the Mount Pleasant Planning Commission, the Association of Citadel Men and the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club.
Parker- Office Administrator/Insurance Coordinator
Parker holds of the position of both Office Administrator and Insurance Coordinator. Her love of people is truly an asset when it comes to her responsibilities of scheduling, checking in and arranging follow up scheduling for our patients. As the Insurance Coordinator for Family Vision Care, Parker works closely with all of our participating insurance companies to insure the correct and complete filing of all patient claims. Be sure to allow time as you schedule your next appointment, to speak with her should you have any questions regarding your insurance coverage and how we may better assist you in regards to your claim. Parker is also versed in the subject of Lasik surgery and would be happy to discuss the features, benefits and how to schedule a Lasik Consultation.
Sarah L.- Head of Optical
Sarah L. grew up in a quaint rural town in southern Connecticut. It was at her small agricultural high school that she found her passion for horses. She followed this through college in upstate New York, earning her Bachelors degree in Equine Science and Management from SUNY Morrisville. After several years of being a professional equestrian trainer, Sarah found a love for all things optical. Sarah moved to Charleston in 2010 where she joined the Family Vision Care team and found another passion in eye wear.
As head Optician, she is enthusiastic about helping patients find the perfect fashionable eye wear that fits their visual needs. Sarah's goal is for every patient that purchases eye wear to be satisfied and excited about what they are wearing!
Sue- Optometric Technician
Sue grew up in the Midwest and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Design from the University of Minnesota as well as a Technical degree in Interior Design and Sales. Previous to becoming an Optometric Technician she worked in Commercial Design and Kitchen and Bath Design. As an Optometric Technician at Family Vision Care, Sue plays a key role in all of the pre-screening that is needed by our doctors. She is fully trained in the advanced technology and is keenly aware of the precise information that is needed to make the eye exam a success for each patient. Her favorite part of the job is the interaction with our patients.
Miranda- Optometric Technician
Miranda is a Charleston native and loves everything about her city! A former competitive equestrian, she now continues her passion for horses by teaching horseback riding lessons. Miranda began her career as an Optometric Technician with the Family Vision Care team in May of 2013. She loves that she gets to learn something new about the field of optometry every day. Just like her knack for teaching skills in the saddle, Miranda's favorite part about her job is educating and interacting with all different types of patients.
